In India, the Modi government has ordered deportation of Rohingiya muslim refugees from the country who took humanitarian asylum in India in 2018, fleeing violence and bloodshed in Myanmar.

The crackdown on Rohingya muslims comes two-week after Modi's government announced the implementation of a controversial citizenship law aimed at granting Indian citizenship to persecuted minorities from neighbouring countries.

The new Citizenship Amendment Act grants nationality to six religious minorities which includes Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians but not Muslims.
