Altaf Hussain HaliMaulana Altaf Hussain Hali was unquestionably one of the pillars of Urdu poetry. He occupies an unusual position in the history of Urdu literature. Altaf Hussain Hali was born in 1837 in Panipat and died in the year 1914. He was recognized with his honorifics as Maulana Khawaja Hali, was an Urdu poet and writer. Hali was a poet, prose-writer, critic, teacher and reformer. He was a best friend of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. He is one of the Aanasar-e-Khamsa of Urdu. His famous long poem, Musaddas-e-Hali is still very popular. His poetry includes nazm, the rubai, and the Marsia. Maulana Altaf Hussain Hali used “Hali” as his takhallus or pen name.
