In a groundbreaking development, local transport providers have taken the initiative to introduce local route fares, marking a significant shift from the traditional practices in Rawalpindi. The Chairman of the Muttahida Transport Federation in Rawalpindi-Islamabad, along with the Presidents of the Wagon Union, Kent Suzuki Union, and Suzuki Union, have officially endorsed these changes by issuing fare structures bearing their official monograms. As a result of this collective effort, commuters can now enjoy a substantial reduction of 10 rupees in their transportation costs.

Under the new fare structure, passengers will experience reduced rates on various routes. For distances of up to 4 kilometers, the fare will stand at a budget-friendly 30 rupees. The rates will increase gradually, with 40 rupees for up to 8 kilometers, 50 rupees for up to 14 kilometers, 60 rupees for up to 22 kilometers, 70 rupees for up to 30 kilometers, and a maximum of 90 rupees for journeys exceeding 30 kilometers. These changes are set to make local commuting more affordable and convenient for the residents of Rawalpindi.

Despite attempts to seek clarification from the Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), no official response has been provided at the time of this report. Nonetheless, passengers have expressed their contentment with the new pricing structure, which translates to a standard stop-to-stop fare of only 50 rupees. This remarkable initiative is expected to enhance the commuting experience and relieve financial burdens for local travelers in Rawalpindi, setting a promising precedent for the future of public transportation in the region.
