Benazir Income Support Cardholders Face Rising Sugar Costs at Utility Stores

In a surprising turn of events, the price of sugar at Utility Stores has soared by Rs. 8 per kilogram, leaving consumers from all walks of life grappling with the sudden surge in costs. Effective immediately, Utility Stores outlets will implement a revised price of Rs. 155 per kilogram, as outlined in an official notification.

This steep increase, up from the previous rate of Rs. 147 per kilogram, signals a significant spike in the cost of this indispensable commodity, affecting the average consumer and beyond.

A recent notification reveals that this price adjustment will affect a wide spectrum of the population, encompassing both general consumers and beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).

BISP beneficiaries will now have to shell out Rs. 109 per kilogram for sugar, compared to the prior rate of Rs. 101 per kilogram. This increment places an additional financial burden on a segment of the population that already relies on government assistance to meet their basic needs.

The sudden rise in sugar prices will affect household budgets, especially for BISP program recipients. The government hasn’t explained the price increase yet, but it’s likely to spark discussions about transparency and factors behind these changes.

This development underscores the critical significance of monitoring and regulating essential commodity prices, ensuring they remain within reach of the common man.
